Why it is worth doing
The Navigli are more than a row of bars: a historic harbor, courtyards, low houses and water reveal another Milan. Arriving early separates the neighborhood from its evening crowd.
How to plan it

Begin at the Darsena about one hour before sunset.

Follow Alzaia Naviglio Grande and detour early into Vicolo dei Lavandai.

Continue to San Cristoforo church if daylight and energy allow.

Return and choose a venue on a side street, not automatically on the canal edge.
Local tips
- Thursday through Saturday, the canal front becomes very busy; a weekday changes the experience.
- The monthly antiques-market Sunday needs extra time and patience.
- For aperitivo, check the menu, seating and music level first; a water view does not compensate for everything.
