Book the Vatican, then choose what you want to see

The museums are too large for completionism. Reserve through the official portal, choose a few collections and protect your attention for the rooms that matter most to you.

Why it is worth doing

A focused route makes the scale feel generous rather than exhausting. The museum sequence is long, and the Sistine Chapel works better as a destination within a plan than as the only thing you remember.

How to plan it

  1. 01

Use only the official Vatican Museums ticket portal and choose an early or late-afternoon time slot.

  2. 02

Download the official map and select two or three priorities before arrival.

  3. 03

Move steadily through connecting galleries and pause properly at your chosen rooms.

  4. 04

Treat St Peter's Basilica as a separate visit with its own entrance and queue.

Local tips

  • Websites with similar names may charge much more than the official portal.
  • Large bags and unsuitable clothing can create problems at security, so check current visitor rules.
  • The final Sunday of the month is free but usually much busier.
